Title: An Early Christmas Present from Dr. Seuss Author: Ieshea H. I was staring at the telly with a bored, blank gaze When a commercial came on that shook me out of my haze A live action movie starring the Cat in the Hat? I couldn't have wished for anything better than that! My boredom, without haste, took a permanent leave I felt like a Who on a white Christmas Eve! I danced and I jigged 'til my cheeks were bright pink I pulled out a feather pen and dipped it in ink I had to mark my calendar of the movie's debut November twenty-first, bid my waiting adieu! For I have loved Dr. Seuss since I was small My heart had been joyed by his books, one and all I felt strong kinships with Horton and Yertle (Strange that my friends were an elephant and turtle!) I thought green eggs and ham were a splendid treat Like the imagination of a boy on Mulberry Street Dr. Seuss created worlds of wisdom and worth Teaching lessons of morality amid the mirth I learned about tolerance and respecting the planet While giggling over the cute, fluffy creatures a bit Creative, fun and filled with morals galore All of Dr. Seuss' stories are things to adore So, when I go to the movie starring that zany cat I would love to be sporting a T-shirt or hat Celebrating a great story from a man most clever And I know I would have the best time ever! |
